These films were all released in 1939, the year that Grand National bit
the dust. So, why couldn't the good lookin' cowgirl save the studio?
Was the studio worth saving? After making the films on a shoestring
budget, did Grand National have any funds left for promotion? And, at
the height of the natural sounding singing cowboy craze, why did some-
one think that a rural crowd (where the films were likely to receive the
best distribution) would cotton to a voice that seems well suited for light
