Talk about an international affair, this is certainly that. This movie is a French and Italian co-production that was filmed in Spain starring an American musical performer as a black cowgirl gunslinger in the old west. The poster above is from Turkey and I think the one below is from Italy. And on top of all that, the only copy I've been able to find of this film has all the dialogue dubbed in German. You really haven't lived until you've seen a western with a black cowgirl shouting orders from her horse in German. I'm sure it's the kind of thing that could have made Hitler turn over in his grave, if he only had one!
I did see this movie when it played in US theatres in the late 60's under the title Frontier Tigress. There's some good cowgirl action here, but Lola Falana spends most of her time in the saloon wearing a dress. The most jarring thing to me was the sound of the saloon house band. You have to be a bit surprised by the sound of an electric guitar and other instruments that weren't invented yet coming from the orchestra pit. And, come to think of it, how many wild west saloons actually had an orchestra pit? The bottom line is that Falana does look good in her cowgirl outfit complete with gun, holster, fringe, and some very nice cleavage - and she sings well, too! It's just one more reason to be glad that the allies prevailed. Hitler would never have permitted this. KJW
