Madonna has announced plans to star in Hello Suckers,  a musical film
based on the life of
Texas Guinan.  Incendiary Blonde is a musical
based on the life of
Texas Guinan starring Betty Hutton.  Can Madonna
fill
Betty's boots?  Can Madonna fill Texas Guinan's boots?  Will
Madonna even wear boots in this picture?

With
Madonna in the lead, Hello Suckers will most likely center more
on the
Texas Guinan of the 1920's and her role as a speakeasy hostess,
as opposed to her previous career as a cowgirl Rodeo and Vaudeville
performer who starred in her own series of silent cowgirl films.

One curious thing I've heard as part of the publicity surrounding the
Madonna project is that Madonna has always wanted to play Texas
Guinan
because of the striking resemblance between the two.  Say
What?
Madonna may bear a slight resemblance to some of the poster
art for
Texas Guinan's silent movie westerns, but Texas herself never
looked anywhere near as good as she was portrayed in the posters.  For
one thing, during most of her cowgirl movie career,
Texas tended to be
very stocky.  She did slim down to become the "Queen of the Night
Clubs" during the prohibition era in New York City.  The name of the
Madonna movie comes from Texas Guinan's famous greeting to her
speakeasy patrons,
"Hello Suckers!"

We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out - no release date
has been set.
Courtney Love was first scheduled  for this project and
even wrote and recorded some original music, but eventually lost the
part due to her various drug and legal problems.

For now, here are cowgirl pictures from the
Betty Hutton version of the
story followed by some cowgirl pictures and glamorized cowgirl posters
of the original
Texas Guinan.
