Imagine that Suzanne Sugerbaker's great-grandmother, "Shady LaRue",
decides to head west when her Saloon is destroyed in the burning of
Atlanta near the end of the Civil War.  She settles in Broad Valley, Texas
and prospers as the owner of the "Shady Lady Saloon".  With the help of
Sheriff "Big Jim Folsom", whom she bribes with her affections, she soon
accumulates large and small tracts of land in the Broad Valley area using
her questionable gambling and business skills.  But when "Big Jim" hints
that she "might be getin'  a little broad in the saddle",  she withdraws her
affections and begins campaigning for his job.  "Why do I need him to
foreclose on people who won't pay me what they owe me?  If I were the
Sheriff, I could do it myself", she promises!  But things really take off
when the gals from her saloon join the campaign promising to do much
more than just shake hands. It is now official, "Shady LaRue" is the new
Sheriff by a landside.  She is now free to wear her guns on both sides of the
law.

But the newly elected sheriff must first face a new threat.  "Kirstie Alley"
as "Buffalo Belle" has been eating her way across the west - she devoured
three towns just last week.  Broad Valley is next in her path.  The "Shady
Lady Sheriff" meets the  buxom cowgirl on the edge of town and offers her
a steady job.  "What this TV show needs is a comical side-kick", she
shouts!  "I need a deputy to get the laughs while I get the men!  The job
pays $5 a month and all the donuts you can eat.  You can have some men
too, but I always get first pick - you can take charge of all the other side-
kicks.  Just think about it - I get to arrest a new guest star every week.  The
first thing I'm gonna do is knock out a wall between those last two cells,
and then I'll want to put up a wall in place of the bars, so no one can see in.
There's just so much work that a new sheriff has to do."
